Are hands actually as hard to draw as people say?

In some of my, well no, many of my character poses, the humanoid ones particularly will have the hands behind the character, not that I can't draw hands, I find it relatively easy and it's moreso out of tradition when I couldn't draw them, but are hands really that infamous in the art community?

Short answer no, long answer the reason there so hard is theres so many joints and postions that can make them hard to draw alot of artist (me included) have a hard time with that. But blocking them out in to shapes really does wonders

I find them a little tricky too, but I think I've found the style I need for my hands haha

They are, doing grips isn't a cakewalk either.

For me it's that I was taught a lot about how to draw hands in a realistic style, which doesn't match where I want to take my art. I've had to re-learn how to draw hands because I can't simplify them very well. I also haven't used my realistic style since 2020 lol
